Igor A. Shiklomanov, 1939-2010

Igor A. Shiklomanov, a Review Editor for the Fifth Assessment Report, passed away on August 22, 2010, in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was 71.


An outstanding Russian hydrologist, Dr. Shiklomanov was Director of the State Hydrological Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, since 1981. Author of over 200 publications, he was an Academician in the Russian Academy of Nature Sciences and received prestigious international scientific awards for outstanding achievements in the field of hydrology and environmental science, including the International Hydrology Prize in 2001 and the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement in 2006. Additionally, he received many Soviet and Russian awards, including Order of the Sign of the Honor (1981), Order of the Friendship of Peoples (1986), and Order for Services to the Fatherland of IV Degree (2010).


Dr. Shiklomanov was a Lead Author for the water resource chapters for the WGII contributions to the Third and Fourth IPCC Assessment Reports.
