Maarten van Aalst

 

Maarten van Aalst is Associate Director and Lead Climate Specialist at the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre, responsible for the Centre's operational support to climate risk management in the Red Cross/Red Crescent, analysis and documentation of experience, and liaising with scientific and policy communities on climate change, disaster risk reduction and development planning.

 

In addition, Maarten continues to spend some of his time as independent adviser to the World Bank, African Development Bank, OECD, DFID, and DGIS. He has taught climate risk management at, among others, Wageningen University, the World Bank Institute, Joint Africa Institute, and United Nations University/ITC. He holds Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Utrecht University.
