Akio Kitoh

 

Dr. Kitoh is Director of Climate Research Department, Meteorological Research Institute, Tsukuba, Japan. He is also a Professor of Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences at University of Tsukuba, Japan. He has been a lead author on several IPCC WGI chapters since 1992 and most recently on Chapter 10 "Global Climate Projections", of the Fourth Assessment Report in 2007.

 

He has been on editorial board on Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, Scientific Online Letters on the Atmosphere (SOLA) of the Meteorological Society of Japan, and Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences (APJAS) of the Korean Meteorological Society.

 

With a PhD in Geophysics from Kyoto University, he specializes in climate modeling focusing on climate variability and seasonal predictions including the effects of monsoon and ENSO, and paleoclimate simulation.
